Scuba Diving In Koh Tao

There are a number of excellent dive sites around Koh Tao, and as such the island has become something of a divers mecca in recent years. Today, there are a large number of people scuba diving on Koh Tao every day, scattered around the numerous dive sites such as Mango Bay, Nang Yuan and the famous Chumphon Pinnacles.


Koh Tao is located in the Samui Archipelago, and is in fact a small island of just over 13 square miles. Around the coast of Koh Tao are numerous small coves and bays, with clear sheltered waters leading up to pristine white sandy bays, many of which provide superb diving conditions, particularly for the novice diver.

There are predominantly two types of dive sites in Koh Tao. The first one is the gentle sandy slopes such as Mango Bay, which are so conducive to the requirements for scuba diving courses. The second type of dive site on Koh Tao are the submerged granite pinnacles such as those at the Chumphon site, which rise majestically from the sea floor and are so often visited by the large pelagics such as the Whale Sharks.

Crystal Dive Resort Joins Resort Program On Scubaworld

Sangat Island Reserve Joins Scubaworld.tv!

As we have mentioned in recent times in the blog, here at Scubaworld we are in the process of launching our new scuba diving holidays database, in which we will work with both specialist dive resorts as well as hotels, guest houses and hostels in places where the scuba diving is considered to be good. Maldives Scuba Diving

The Maldives offer some of the worlds finest scuba diving, and divers from all over the world are drawn here every year by the superb levels of marine life, and exceptional coral that exists under the water in around the hundreds of atolls in the Maldives.

The majority of the dive sites in the Maldives tend to be located in the shallow coral reefs which surround the low lying atolls, however the channels (or Thila's) which exist in the narrow gaps between atolls also provide some of the Maldives most notable scuba diving experiences. These thilas, formed by a an unusual geological phenomena millions years ago see strong tidal currents drive in the narrow gaps between the atolls, bringing with them the large amounts of food brought in from the open ocean. Subsequently, a good amount of marine life including a variety of sharks and rays can be found here on a regular basis, waiting for the food that comes through with the tidal currents.

There is a thriving industry for liveaboards in the Maldives, and a large number of boats regularly take scuba divers to some of the more inaccessible dive sites to be found here.
