Koh Tao is located in the Samui Archipelago, and is in fact a small island of just over 13 square miles. Around the coast of Koh Tao are numerous small coves and bays, with clear sheltered waters leading up to pristine white sandy bays, many of which provide superb diving conditions, particularly for the novice diver.

There are predominantly two types of dive sites in Koh Tao. The first one is the gentle sandy slopes such as Mango Bay, which are so conducive to the requirements for scuba diving courses. The second type of dive site on Koh Tao are the submerged granite pinnacles such as those at the Chumphon site, which rise majestically from the sea floor and are so often visited by the large pelagics such as the Whale Sharks.
